Slider Shot
A short smooth lateral move on a small track.

What it is for
A short lateral move across a subject, usually a metre or less. The frame barely changes and the shot still reads as alive, because the near planes shift against the far ones.
It exists because a static frame can feel dead and a full dolly move can feel like an announcement. A slider sits in between and adds motion without adding drama.
How it works
The camera runs on a short rail, often a bar under a metre long on a tripod or on a table. The travel is slow and it usually finishes before the shot does.
Depth is the whole return on the move. Stage something close to the lens and something far behind, and the small travel produces a visible change in their relationship.
Keep it slow. A short rail covered quickly looks like a nudge, and the move draws attention to itself for no reason.
When to use it
Use it on product shots, on cutaways, under interviews, and anywhere a locked frame needs a little life without a statement.
Skip it when the shot has to travel somewhere. A slider cannot cover distance, and asking it to leaves the camera stopping halfway.
Told apart from its neighbours
A dolly left is the same direction of travel over a longer distance and usually with a purpose, such as a reveal or a subject to follow.
A slider goes a short way and arrives nowhere. If the frame at the end of the move holds something that was not in it at the start, you asked for a dolly.
The prompt
Replace the blanks, keep the rest. Then run it on a video model.
short slider move across <subject>, smooth lateral travel, gentle parallax, tight distance
What goes wrong
The move runs the length of a room, because a model reads a lateral request as travel. Say the move is short, roughly a metre, and slow.
The second failure is handheld drift standing in for a rail. Ask for smooth mechanical travel with no bob, which is what a slider is for.
Leave out
long travel, handheld
Watch for
Keep it short. A long slider move reads as a tracking shot.
