Pan Right

The camera turns to its right, so the frame opens onto ground the audience has not seen. It reads as moving forward through a space rather than back over it.

For an audience that reads left to right, a rightward sweep carries a small sense of progress. It is the direction a scene tends to use when it is going somewhere.

The camera pivots right on a fixed point. The body stays put, so the foreground and the background travel across the frame at the same rate.

Screen direction is the camera's, not the subject's. A pan right turns the lens to the right, and the contents of the frame therefore travel left.

Give the move a landing frame. The turn needs somewhere to arrive, or it stops at an arbitrary angle with nothing composed in it.

Use it to follow somebody moving right, and to open onto new information: a second character, an exit, a thing waiting at the far end of the room.

Drop the direction when it carries nothing. A plain pan with a named destination is easier to get and reads the same.

Dolly Right carries the camera sideways through the space, so near objects shear against far ones. Pan Right turns on the spot, which means it can reveal what is beside you and never what is behind something.

Watch a foreground edge. Locked to the background is a pan. Sliding across it is a dolly.

The model travels and adds parallax the shot should not have. Say the camera turns on a fixed point without moving, and ban dolly right explicitly.

The other failure is the turn going the wrong way, because left and right are ambiguous unless anchored. Name what the frame lands on and the direction settles itself.
