Pull Out
- pull-out
The camera retreats and the frame opens to the setting.

What it is for
The camera retreats and the frame keeps adding things. What looked like a whole picture turns out to have been a detail, and the audience is handed the rest of it.
Retreating also cools a scene down. A pull out at the end of a sequence lets the air back in and tells the audience the moment is over.
How it works
The camera travels backward along the lens axis at a steady rate, and objects enter at the edges of frame as it goes.
The end frame decides whether the move works. A pull out is a reveal, so something has to be waiting at the wide end: a room, a crowd, a landscape, a second person who was there the whole time.
Speed sets the tone. A slow retreat feels like release. A fast one feels like being pulled away from something you wanted to keep watching.
When to use it
Use it to close a scene, to reveal context that changes the meaning of what came before, and to hand a sequence back to the wider world.
Skip it when the wide frame holds nothing. A retreat into empty space reads as a mistake, and a model will fill the gap with whatever it likes.
Told apart from its neighbours
A dolly out is the same move named after the equipment, and it usually implies rails and a measured speed. Pull out is the plainer word and covers any backward travel, including a crane or a drone.
Either way the failure is the same, so name the destination. A move described only by its direction has nowhere to arrive.
The prompt
Replace the blanks, keep the rest. Then run it on a video model.
camera pulls out from <subject>, steady retreat, setting opening around the subject
What goes wrong
The camera drifts backward and stops wherever it happens to be, because nothing in the prompt told it where to finish. Say what the last frame holds.
The second failure is a zoom out, which scales the picture and reveals nothing new at the edges. Ask for objects to enter the frame at the sides as the camera travels.
Leave out
push in, zoom
Watch for
Name the end frame. A pull out with no destination drifts.
