Casual Monster Slayer

An enormous creature fills the background and the person in front of it is thinking about lunch. The gap between the threat and the reaction is the joke.

It works because the frame refuses to acknowledge the creature. No low angle, no dramatic light, no music implied by the composition.

Ordinary daylight on an ordinary street. The creature is lit by the same sun as the person and throws a shadow that agrees with theirs, which is what keeps it inside the world.

The subject holds the foreground at normal portrait size. The creature sits further back, large enough to be unmistakable and far enough back that it never crops.

Framing stays level and unremarkable. The camera treats the whole thing as a walking portrait.

Use it for comedy, for a reveal that rewards a second look, and for a thumbnail that pays off attention.

Skip it for anything meant to frighten. Every choice in it removes tension on purpose.

Mighty Fighter is the sincere version of the same ingredients: armour, a heroic stance, a lit arena and a low angle looking up. Everything in it says the fight matters.

Casual Monster Slayer says the opposite. Read the subject's face. Any reaction at all and you have drifted into the heroic version.

The model gives the subject a reaction, because a monster behind somebody implies fear. Say the subject is completely unconcerned and looking somewhere else.

The second failure is night and dramatic light, which turns the creature into a threat. Ask for ordinary daylight, because that is what keeps it banal.
