What it is for
A designer toy is a sculpture sold as a toy, so it keeps a toy's material and throws away a toy's function. Removing the joints removes play, which is exactly what makes it read as an object to own rather than to use.
How it works
The figure is rotocast in soft vinyl as one hollow piece, so it has no seams at the joints and a small vent hole underneath. The finish is matte with a faint sheen. Colours are sprayed through masks, which gives hard edges between flat areas. The design is reduced to a few bold shapes.
When to use it
Use it for collectibles, brand characters and streetwear. Avoid it when the character needs to act, because a figure with no joints has one pose forever.

Plastic Toy is articulated, glossy and mass produced with visible parting lines. Stylised PBR is a character rather than an object. Plush is soft, sewn and stuffed.
