Question 1

What can I make with ElevenLabs Voice Design?

Accepted Answer

Any voice you can describe in words. Design a warm narrator for a YouTube channel, a gruff dwarf for a fantasy game, or a calm guide for a meditation app. Give each character in an audiobook or an animated short a voice of its own. Create a brand voice for your ads. Each run returns one MP3 sample of the voice, and that voice can then read any script you write.

Question 2

How do I write a good voice description?

Accepted Answer

Be specific, because more detail gives a more accurate voice. Cover the language and accent, gender, age, tone, pace, and the character behind it. A structure that works well: Native British English. Female, in her 40s. Studio quality. Persona: calm documentary narrator. Emotion: warm, measured, curious. Then add a sentence about the texture of the voice and how it delivers a line. Leave out effects like reverb or echo. A description can be 20 to 1,000 characters.

Question 3

What if the voice is not quite right?

Accepted Answer

Run it again. Each run designs a new take on your description, so the same brief can come back a little deeper, faster, or brighter. If several takes miss in the same way, change the description instead. A small change, like a different age or a clearer accent, often makes the biggest difference. Keep the take you like and use it in every script.

Question 4

How do I use a designed voice in a voiceover?

Accepted Answer

Open ElevenLabs Text to Speech and add the sample from your library as the designed voice. Write your script and generate. It works with every Text to Speech model, including Eleven v4 with audio tags like [whispers] and [laughs]. Use the same sample for every later script, so a narrator or a character sounds the same across a whole series. Only you can speak with the voices you design.

Question 5

What line does the sample read?

Accepted Answer

When you design a voice on this page, ElevenLabs writes a line that suits it, so the description is all you need. Through the API, the vsb CLI, or an AI agent, you can also pass your own line of 100 to 1,000 characters. A longer line gives a steadier, more expressive sample, and a short phrase can sound abrupt. Match the mood of the line to the description, so a cheerful voice reads a cheerful line.

Question 6

Which languages and accents can it do?

Accepted Answer

Voice Design speaks more than 70 languages and handles regional accents well. Name the language and the accent in the first sentence of the description, like Native Brazilian Portuguese, or American English with a slight Southern drawl. Being explicit keeps the voice from drifting into another accent. Name the exact region rather than a vague word like foreign or exotic.

Question 7

Can I clone my own voice or a real person's voice?

Accepted Answer

No. Voice Design creates a brand new voice from a written description, and voice cloning is not available on Visual Sandbox. A recording of a real person cannot be used as a designed voice. Describe the qualities you are after instead, like the age, the accent, the texture, and the energy. The result is an original voice made for your project.

Question 8

How much does ElevenLabs Voice Design cost?

Accepted Answer

Pricing is billed per character of the line the sample reads. When ElevenLabs writes the line, the price shown is the most a run can cost, and you pay only for the line it actually writes. A script spoken later in your designed voice is billed like any other Text to Speech run. There is no subscription and no monthly quota.

Question 9

Can I use designed voices commercially?

Accepted Answer

Yes. ElevenLabs allows commercial use of speech made with its models, including monetized videos, ads, podcasts, audiobooks, games, and client work. You are responsible for the description, the script, and the final use. Some platforms ask you to label AI-generated voices, so check the rules where you publish.
