What it is for
Moulded plastic carries the marks of the machine that made it, and those marks read as manufactured rather than as imagined. The gloss also makes every curve legible, which is why toys photograph so well.
How it works
Surfaces are glossy with a sharp specular highlight. A parting line runs around each moulded part where the two halves of the mould met. Small circular sprue marks show where parts were cut from the frame. Joints are visible balls. Colours are flat and solid, with no texture at all.
When to use it
Use it for products, collectibles and anything with a box. Avoid it for warmth, because gloss and symmetry are cold.
Told apart from its neighbours
Vinyl Designer Toy is the same material at a larger scale with no articulation and a matte finish. Brick Built is assembled from standard parts with studs. Clay Render has no gloss and no seams at all.

What goes wrong
A clean smooth character with bright colours comes back. Ask for the parting line, the sprue marks and the visible ball joints, which are the three things that say moulded.

The parting line is what proves the process. Ask for it by name, running around every part, or the figure reads as a smooth character rather than as a moulded object.
