Weirdcore

An ordinary place is photographed badly and then made slightly wrong, and no reason is given for either. The image looks like something somebody found rather than something somebody made.

The poor quality is load bearing. A low resolution picture with a harsh flash carries an implication that nobody was trying, and that implication is what makes the wrongness feel accidental and therefore real.

Amateur camera characteristics. Direct on-camera flash, blown highlights, red eye, wrong white balance, heavy compression.

Wrong scale or wrong geometry, applied lightly. A door too small, a hallway that repeats, a ceiling lower than it should be. One change is enough.

Crude additions are part of the vocabulary: arrows, circles, typed text over the image. They look added after the fact by somebody who is not explaining themselves.

Use it for unease that has no story, for internet-native horror, and for images that should feel like evidence of something nobody documented properly.

Skip it when the piece needs to look produced. Everything about the style says nobody cared how it looked.

Dreamcore is softer, dimmer and more coherent, and its unease comes from emptiness. Weirdcore is harsher, uses flash, and adds visible distortion or text.

The test is the image quality. If the picture looks like a cheap snapshot with something added to it, the name is weirdcore.

The model cleans the image up. Polish removes the unease immediately, so ask for a low quality amateur photograph with harsh flash and compression artefacts.

The second failure is a stated reason for the wrongness. Keep it unexplained. Adding a narrative turns it into a horror scene with a plot.
