What it is for
A board exists to answer one question fast: does this shot work. Everything that does not help answer it is left out, which is why the drawings are so economical and why they read so well. They are pure intention with nothing on top.
How it works
Soft pencil, drawn quickly and never cleaned up. Light is blocked in with two or three grey markers, never more. Arrows show movement, because a still frame has to explain a moving one. A ruled rectangle marks the frame edge, and a number identifies the shot.
When to use it
Use it to show a process, a plan or an idea in progress, and for anything that should feel like a work in hand rather than a finished piece. Avoid it as a hero image, because the style says explicitly that this is not the final thing.
Told apart from its neighbours
Model Sheet is a reference document with several views and construction rules. Xerographic Line is a finished frame that kept its rough line. Concept Painting is fully rendered and made to sell a feeling rather than test a shot.
Where it is used
It suits a case study, a pitch deck, a behind the scenes page and any picture that wants to show the thinking rather than the result.

What goes wrong
A beautifully finished pencil illustration comes back. Ask for the arrow, the ruled frame and the shot number by name, and say the drawing is not cleaned up.
Leave out
clean lines, finished colour, full rendering, a polished figure, a decorative border
Watch for
The furniture is the style. Without the frame rectangle, the arrow and the shot number, a rough pencil drawing is just a rough pencil drawing.
