What it is for
A character drawn by forty people has to stay one character. The sheet is the agreement: this is how tall the head is, this is where the eyes sit, this is what the back looks like. It reads well because it is a picture of a rule.
How it works
Several views of the same figure sit in a row at the same scale. Horizontal lines rule across all of them at the eye, the shoulder and the hip, proving the proportions hold from every side. Construction circles are left visible under the ink. Expressions and notes go underneath.
When to use it
Use it whenever the subject is the design of a character rather than a moment in a story. It is wrong for anything atmospheric, because the style removes the setting and the light on purpose.
Told apart from its neighbours
Storyboard Frame is about a shot and carries one drawing. Concept Painting is about a mood and is fully rendered. Ligne Claire is a finished drawing style, not a production document.

It suits a design case study, a brand character guideline and any page that has to show a character can be drawn again by somebody else.

The prompt

What goes wrong
Four unrelated poses come back, at different sizes, in a scene. Ask for one plain white page, the same height across all views, and the ruled guide lines that tie them together.
Leave out
a scene, a background, dramatic lighting, a single figure, perspective, cast shadows
Watch for
Ask for the guide lines by name. They are what turns four drawings of a character into a document, and a model draws four separate figures without them.
