What it is for
A mascot has to work on a favicon, a billboard, an embroidered shirt and a single colour stamp. Every constraint pushes the same way: fewer shapes, fewer colours, a stronger silhouette. What survives all of them is what makes a mascot memorable.
How it works
The design is built from a few geometric shapes. One memorable feature does the identifying work. Two or three flat brand colours, a thick even outline, and simple eyes. Nothing is rendered, nothing has texture, and the whole thing is drawn flat so it can be reproduced anywhere.
When to use it
Use it for identity work, app icons and packaging. Avoid it for storytelling, because a mascot is built to stay the same rather than to act.
Told apart from its neighbours
Funny Animal is a tradition rather than a brief, and carries more detail. Sticker Character is a finish applied to any design. Vinyl Designer Toy is a mascot turned into an object.
Where it is used
It carries an app icon, a packaging character, a sports identity and any figure that has to be recognised in a hurry for many years.

The prompt
Replace the blanks with your own character, keep the rest. Then run it on an image model.
<character> designed as a brand mascot, built from a small number of simple geometric shapes with a silhouette that reads at the size of a favicon, a single memorable feature carrying the whole identity, two or three flat brand colours and no more, a thick even outline, a friendly forward facing expression with simple eyes, no fine detail anywhere, drawn flat with no perspective on a plain background
What goes wrong
A detailed illustrated character comes back that collapses when shrunk. Put the size test in the prompt: the silhouette must read at favicon size.
Leave out
fine detail, gradients, a complex silhouette, many colours, a three quarter perspective, texture
Watch for
Test it at favicon size in the prompt. Saying the silhouette must read at sixteen pixels forces the simplification that a mascot brief actually needs.
