What it is for
Everything about it exists to be drawn quickly and consistently by a large team, and to survive compression on a small screen. Flat colour, one line weight and a tiny palette are production decisions that turned into an aesthetic.
How it works
One thick constant line weight for the silhouette and the interior alike. Flat fills with a single hard shadow shape. A palette of six or seven saturated colours reused everywhere. Construction from simple geometry with rounded corners. Backgrounds reduced to flat colour with a shape or two.
When to use it
Use it for explainers, brand work and comedy. Avoid it when a picture needs atmosphere, because the style removes every tool for making any.
Told apart from its neighbours
Outline Weight is the line rule with two weights rather than one. Cartoon Modern is rougher, angular and off register. Noodle Limb is a construction rather than a finish.
