What it is for
Long fibre destroys the edge of a form, and an object with no edge reads as touchable before anything else about it registers. It is the softest a render can look, which is why the whole fluffy icon trend is built on it.
How it works
Strands are long enough to be seen individually and lie in a direction. The silhouette breaks into loose fibre. A strong light behind passes through the outer strands and makes them glow. The form underneath is only suggested, because the pile hides it.
When to use it
Use it for softness, comfort and anything aimed at delight. Avoid it where a shape must be precise, because the material erases precision by design.
