What it is for
A surface made of thousands of identical small things reads as obsessive and expensive at once, because somebody had to place them. The sparkle also does what a gloss finish cannot: it describes the form through hundreds of tiny highlights rather than one large one.
How it works
Tiny spheres pack the surface shoulder to shoulder. Each takes its own specular highlight. The silhouette becomes a bumpy dotted edge. Colour changes are areas of different beads, so every boundary is speckled rather than clean.
When to use it
Use it for confectionery, cosmetics, craft and anything that should look encrusted. Avoid it at small sizes, where the beads average into a texture and the effect is lost.
Told apart from its neighbours
Flocked Velvet is fibre and has no highlight at all. Knitted is made of loops rather than spheres. Voxel is cubes on a grid rather than spheres on a surface.
