What it is for

How it works
Oil paint that dries slowly is worked directly on glass, often lit from below. The artist changes the painting between frames rather than making a new one, so pigment from the previous image stays in the mix. Strokes are thick and wet, and colours blend where they touch.
When to use it
Use it for emotion, transformation and anything painterly. Avoid it for clarity, because the medium refuses a clean edge.
