What it is for
Fraktur documents were made to record something: a birth, a marriage, a baptism. The form itself says this is worth keeping, which is a good thing for a poster to say.
The hex star and the distelfink are also genuinely striking graphic devices, and almost nobody uses them.
How it works
Build on a vertical axis with strict bilateral symmetry, as though the sheet had been folded in half.
Use the fixed vocabulary: distelfink birds, tulips, hearts, pomegranates, and an eight-pointed hex star rosette inside a circle.
Outline in ink and fill with watercolour that bleeds slightly into laid paper. Draw the title as blackletter Fraktur with a flourished initial, and rule the border by hand with scalloped corners.
When to use it
Use it for a barn dance, a harvest supper, a craft fair, a quilt show, a folk festival, a wedding, an anniversary.
Leave it alone for anything urban or modern. The style is rural and ceremonial.
Told apart from its neighbours
Rosemaling flows asymmetrically with C and S scrolls and a lot of movement. Fraktur is rigid and symmetrical.
Arts and Crafts repeats its pattern edge to edge rather than mirroring it around an axis.
Madhubani fills every gap with pattern and uses a double outline.

Where it was used
Pennsylvania German communities drew Fraktur birth and baptism certificates from the 1740s onward, and painted hex signs on barns across the same counties. The almanacs and the certificates are where the graphic vocabulary is clearest.

What goes wrong
The model returns a loose folk illustration. Ask for strict bilateral symmetry around a vertical axis, as though the paper had been folded.
